Reviews
Let me start out saying that I'm sorry to have to leave a 1 star review for a hotel that was clean and had pleasant staff. But, there were no parking spaces available when I arrived at 7pm. There were at least 15 cars that had no legal space to park in. There was an RV taking up 7 spaces by itself. Staff did not ask that person to move. This may sound like a complaint over a minor inconvenience, but it's a much bigger problem. I was directed to park illegally next to a shipping container. Had someone hit my car, I would have been held liable. This happened to a friend of mine who was once parked the wrong way on a street, and he was ticketed and had to pay the deductible of the person who hit him. Staff were informed of this problem, and they told me it has been a problem for years and that a staff member's car was once hit by an RV. This is a management problem. They should not allow RVs to take up spaces when there are not enough for everyone else, and this is coming from an RV owner. Furthermore, this is a violation of city ordinances for Walterboro, which has been reported. The Holiday Inn website says complimentary parking is provided for this hotel. If they can't honor their commitments, they shouldn't be renting the rooms. They need to post a "park at your own risk" sign because most guests probably don't know the potential liabilities the hotel is creating for those who don't get a space. Or perhaps the hotel needs to make a commitment and assume liability for any accidents that might occur. Sounds like, according to one of the employees, this isn't a new problem. Lastly, the IHG customer service representative said that the company is liable for parking since they directed me to park there, which she likely has no authority to promise. I was promised a return call from IHG or the hotel manager.
I will take down the negative review if the hotel can show me they fixed the problem.
Update 1/12:
Neither IHG customer service nor the hotel manager returned my call as promised. The had some excuse about "there was a problem with the interstate," which is both untrue and unrelated to the complaint. They also told me that customers are liable for parking, which is obviously true, but is contrary to the customer service representative from IHG who said they would be liable for customers directed to illegally park.
Living in Florida and having all of my family in the Northeast can be a daunting task, especially during the holiday season. I drove about 9 hours and stopped in Walterboro, which is a familiar town; as I have spent the night there before. I traveled the Sunday after Thanksgiving; which was a rainy day, paired with holiday I-95 travel proved to be tough.
The hotel itself is situated off of I-95 South, in a rather smaller area paired with a handful of other lodging accommodations, a few gas stations, and a Cracker Barrel & Ruby Tuesday. The Holiday Inn Express is situated close to the interstate but, not close enough to where you will hear any traffic noise. My first impression driving up was that it certainly seemed to be an older-style location based on its architecture, walking into the lobby also presented the same feeling with the dated Holiday Inn's deep mahogany colors. When I checked into the room I was pleasantly surprised that the room seemed to be recently remodeled. It had all of the latest color schemes, carpet, drapery, and bedding at all the new locations.
The agent at the front desk, I believe I heard her tell the guest in-front of me at check-in her name was “Terry” was very pleasant and was able to accommodate my request to be in a single king room on the top (third) floor. As I previously stated the room seemed to be recently updated. My only complaint which; warrants the deduction of a star, was the overall cleanliness of the room. I found hair all over the bathroom and a long strand on one of the pillows, as well as dust on surfaces. None of it was egregious enough to warrant me complaining to the staff to get a new room but, it was clear the housekeeping staff was aware of it and simply overlooked it on many occasions.
Overall, I would stay at this location again but, I do wish they would step their cleanliness up in order to make themselves a top-tier property.
Upon arrival, the night clerks were so friendly and warm and accommodating. The room was spotless, clean, and the beds are always so comfortable at Holiday Inn express. The breakfast area was spotless, clean, and the food had nice choices. …
Stayed here as a halfway point traveling back to Florida from VA. This hotel was super duper clean! The lobby, hallways and rooms smelled so fresh. I am big on cleanliness so was very impressed. Kudos to the housekeeping staff. It was very quiet and all around nice stay. Would definitely stay again!
As a frequent travelerI often seek out Holiday Inn Express.
The room we was in last night simply was never cleaned In between stays. There was other peoples hair EVERYWHERE. Out of 8 pillows in the room, every one had hair on them. Same could be said with most of the towels. There was hair by the sink and in the shower.
The desk had crumbs and a sticky substance on it..
The funny thing is there is a red paper asking for positive reviews on the desk. Even this paper was covered in wet crumbs that soiled the paper.
Very friendly staff! Efficient and accommodating. Clean rooms. TV was working and staff came up and fixed immediately. Across the street from Cracker Barrel and next to convenient store. Waffle House just over the bridge. Located right off of I-95 on the right, heading southbound. Would stay here again.
Nice hotel. Rooms very clean. All amenities one could need. The staff was great. Special kudos to Stacy who took care of the Continental breakfast as well as her assistant. Both served up good food, nice variety. They helped with all our needs.
Room was very reasonably priced.
Easy on/off the highway.
Love Holiday inn Express!
The best Holiday Inn Express we've stayed at. Very clean which is a priority to me. The front desk customer service was excellent from the moment we arrived until we left. Food service staff was exceptional. They went above and beyond to treat their customers as the first priority. All the other Holiday Inn Express hotels should have to take a seminar from the manager of this hotel on how to do things right. Unfortunately, our experience at many of the other Holiday Inn Express Hotels we stayed at was a far cry from what we experienced at the Walterboro one. My hats off to the general manager, Minteci Williams!
